Advertisement for Disneyland Paris Essay Example

Advertisement for Disneyland Paris Paper Question: This is an advertisement for Disneyland Paris. How does the writer try to persuade the reader that Disneyland Paris is an attractive holiday resort for families?  To analyse how the writer tries to persuade the reader that Disneyland Paris is an attractive holiday resort for families I must first assess how the layout and presentational devices make it seem attractive. Firstly there are mainly pictures rather than a lot of text which is good for children because it is easy to convey the message of how wonderful and amazing Disneyland is, through the images to the children. Children do not like to read through lots of text or may not want to. The images are bright and bold especially the centre image of the Kingdom. It looks very powerful and amazing, especially when compared to the size of the people around it. The effect of this element of the image on the reader is that children especially will be in awe of the Kingdom just from looking at the image. The Kingdom draws your attention to the article and the people are bustling rather than busy so this would attract parents who want an exciting but relaxing holiday. All of the families and groups of people look to be having a fun and enjoyable time which creates a free and happy atmosphere where the reader knows that they wont be judged by race and they can have a good time without the usual day to day worries. Each picture creates a different atmosphere appealing to different members of the family which gives the idea that the article is targeted at families because families will have members of varying age range and interests. In both of these pictures the children look to be having the time of their life on the rides, they are all smiling and enjoying the Disneyland experience promised to the reader through both the text and images. The title is very eye catching and seems to sum up the whole of the article. Your Kingdom of Dreams. The most important paragraph at the top left hand corner of the article is also eye catching and draws the attention of the reader because it uses a bold and italic font. Secondly to analyse how the writer persuades the reader that it is an attractive holiday resort for families we must assess how and why specific examples of persuasive language are used. The first paragraph tries to persuade the reader that Disneyland is an amazing place. The writer does this by using vivid vocabulary and powerful adjectives. Such as treasure chest of fantasy. This is also emotive language because it evokes the feeling of happiness and enjoyment. The treasure chest of fantasy also gives the idea that Disneyland Paris is whatever the reader wants it to be. This persuades the reader into going visiting just to experience this fantasy if nothing else. Another powerful persuasive phrase used is a dazzling array of attractions, adventure and sights. This persuades the reader into visiting Disneyland because they want to experience the dazzling sights and the children want to have adventures amongst their favourite Disney characters, also because the phrase uses assonance it sticks in the mind of the reader. The Paragraph under the Main Street USA conveys to the reader the amazing atmosphere to be enjoyed there. The writer has used imagery to evoke a mental picture of the Street to the audience by using phrases such as Music fills the air, horse drawn street cars and quaint shops and restaurants reflecting the char, of turn of the century America. A rhetorical question is also used to persuade you into booking that dream holiday and exploring the wonder of Disneyland. Which will you explore next? It invites the readers to come and explore and find out for themselves what it is like. Which will you explore next? The writer is also assuming that the reader will definitely visit Disneyland because it says which one will you explore next? and not which one would you explore next or which one would you explore if you came to Disneyland? The last thing which I must assess when analysing how the writer tries to persuade the reader that Disneyland is an attractive resort for families, is how successful the advert is in appealing to both children and parents. It appeals to children with the language which it uses and adults are happy if their children are. But equally there are elements in the text which appeal to adults and therefore it is successful in appealing to both groups of people and therefore to families It appeals to children through the text and language used because a lot of it is easy to read and the writer uses simple but effective adjectives which provoke imaginative thoughts and dreams for the child. For example dream and amazing and dazzling. Another way in which the text appeals to children is the phrase Ride it if you dare! This is very cleverly used by the writer because it is an invitation to the child to see whether they are brave enough and this is a powerful device which is likely to be of importance to the child. They can show off to their friends about how brave they were at Disneyland. The kingdom is also like a fairytale castle and magical place. The children can relate to this from their storybooks and other things they have experienced. The parents can relate to the images because especially on the main image there are more adults than children and this is comforting to them because they can see that parents can enjoy the Disney experience as well as children. The parents can also relate to the text as the children may not understand some of the more complex vocabulary and this is obviously aimed at the parents. The prices would appeal to the parents because they would probably be within a budget and would be interested in the value for money and choice of meals. The parents would also be more interested in the quaint shops and restaurants reflecting the charm of turn of the century America because the children will not be interested in the history they will only be interested in the excitement of the place. Where as the history is more of a theme which the adults will be interested in.

A Day At The Park Essays - Tag, Slide Guitar, Free Essays

A Day At The Park Essays - Tag, Slide Guitar, Free Essays A Day At The Park A couple of months ago I went to the park with my nephew. I remember the day like is was yesterday. The weather was cool and clouds were overhead. I sat by myself and watched him play and watched everything happen around me. I wasnt expecting to find so many interesting things just watching people, but amazed at what I did discover. Children were all over the place and were wearing coats that had their favorite characters on them. A girl had purple mittens with a teletubby on them and a boy had a blue coat with Thomas the Train on it. One small boy with green eyes had a hat with a ball on the top. There were only two mothers at the park and seven children not including a baby by the side of one of the mothers. The baby was asleep and was bundled up in two blankets, one pink and one had bunnies on it. The children were all playing a game of tag and were out of breath from running around. One of the boys involved in the game fell down and began to cry. His mother broke away from conversations to tend to the need of her son. After a few minutes he was fine. While that was going on, the other children discovered that when they went down the slide it shocked them. They screamed with delight every time they went down the red plastic slide. After a while they started another game of tag. The kids ran as fast as they could. They would kick up wet sand all over their backs as they ran. Before I knew it, it was time to leave as my nephew and I walked back to my car the thought of being a kid again would be great. All in all, the park was something that I never thought that I would enjoy so much, but I found it to be very interesting.

Dissection and graded - Assignment Example These factors might prevent people from participating in the screening tests. Various factors are found to be dominantly effecting people’s decision of participating in the screening tests. The two possible reasons include awareness and health beliefs. As screening is a process of identifying risk of diseases in presymptomatic individuals for effective therapy or primary prevention to evaluate the risk factors (Shickle & Chadwick, 1994). Depending upon the concepts and beliefs people decide to take part in screening procedures. Nowadays people are aware of both things, the pros of screening tests and the cons. Because of increasing adverse effects reported due to screening procedures the awareness has been increased therefore; people do not wish to participate in screening procedures. People are more aware of the adverse consequences like fear, depression, anxiety, etc. which occur due to undertaking screening tests, this hinders in their decision of participating in screening tests. Health beliefs of some individuals influenced by their culture or traditions also prevent people from participation (Government of Western Australia, 2014). People consider the screening tests to be waste of money as they do not find them useful. As studies have proven screening tests have not found effective in decreasing the risk of diseases therefore, people do not consider them as useful or result oriented. Surveys have proved that most people do not consider themselves to be sick or have any risk of disease which prevents them from taking part in screening tests. People also consider the screening procedures to be unsafe and may result in doing harm to their bodies which makes them fearful. Having proper awareness and guidance about one self and knowing whether screening is necessary or not prevent individuals from facing series of adverse outcomes. In order to overcome screeningitis the public health

The importance of gender issue in society

The importance of gender issue in society Gender issue has become so important this lately. Many people think that gender plays a very important role in the society. Public views on gender have become so exact on certain issue till it is being accepted as a fact by the community. For instance, issues engrossing equality, inequality and stereotyping on gender nowadays attracted most people attention. United Nations Population Fund affirmed that equality will only exist when both men and women have an equal right in the power allocation of power and influence. And also they will have a corresponding chance to gain money and finance their life by working or doing businesses. They will as well have equivalent right of entry in education as well to share responsibility for the household chores. Society always tries to differentiate between what a man and a woman can achieve because it is understandable for a man and a woman to have different physical appearance, difference body size, different capabilities, different strength and etc. A man is continuously being described as a conqueror and always acts as an oppressor to woman life. But in reality, all those things will not happen again in todays modernize world. In some area, such as military, leadership, role in family and chances of being promoted in workplace it is found that women cannot survive just as men can do. Society inces santly believes that men can perform well in those areas just because the past had shown that men are better in those areas. This will prevent the women from showing their capabilities. Most horrible, this will led to many other problems. For example, women have a higher poverty rate than men in almost all nations. In thinking about possible causes of the gender gap in poverty rates, it is crucial to understand that poverty is measured at the household or family level in most all government and academic statistics. Christopher, England, Sara and Smeeding (2000) concluded that for a woman who has a spouse or married women, this thing will only become their minor problem. But for a single mother, it will lead them to become poor. There are two main reasons for this problem, which are they actually earn lower than a man and a fact that they always live together with their children after divorce. Thus, it will direct to a very big problem which is poverty in the family. Nevertheless, people should notice that inequality not only happen in women community but also mens. Even from the outside people always sees a man as tough and better in strength, but actually they are suffering inside. A man will not be allowed to express their feeling and act emotionally. For example, a girl may be allowed to act some tomboyish behavior, but little boys cannot be allowed to be a sissy or at least show some sissy stuff. In addition, a woman also can be easily accepted if she is trying to work seriously in the man profession but a man will receive many negative comments if he is trying to work in the woman profession. For example, a lady can simply apply for a career in the army however a man will be question a lot if he is attempting to apply for the nurse job. Perhaps, this thing occur because people might think it is difficult for a man to show the love and kindness like a woman might do where as to show the strength and ability in the army is trouble-free for a woman. However, equality also exists in gender. Women and men nowadays have an equal right to receive same level of education. In many countries, there is no barrier between level of education applied to men and women. Thus, after receive the same level of education they might also acquire the same high pays job. This will decrease the difference in wage they receive. Rushfan (2008) said that in many areas of Afghanistan, girls are often taken out of school when they hit puberty. Cultural factors related to the correctness of sending girls to school, reluctance to send girls and boys to the same school after third grade, as well as the perceived and real security threats related to girls walking to school and attending classes all contribute to slowing down the enrollment of girls in schools. But, however we should be thankful because the same policies did not applied in Malaysia. Woman in Malaysia cannot be disallowing from receiving education as this is an offense under Education Act of 1 996 which stated that all children must attend primary school classes until they finish their Standard 6 phase. Stereotyping always occur in everydays life. People cannot escaping from the act of stereotyping others from their days. According to Oxford Dictionary of Sociology, gender stereotyping means that it is one-sided and exaggerated images of men and women one deployed repeatedly in everyday life. In a simple words, gender stereotyping can be clarify as the accusations or assumptions made about a specific gender whether they are true or false. Most of the time however, gender stereotyping is far from the truth but based on past speculations therefore it is assumed as true in the present time. Additionally, it will also persuade someone to put others down because of their gender or believe that they are unable to do a particular job just because they are either male or female. There are many factors that have stimulated the gender stereotyping issue. The influence from the media, family leaders, schoolteachers, buddies and the respected religious people undoubtedly are the main stimulus of gender stereotyping. McConnell (n.d), described that media always portrayed individuals like sportsmen, celebrities and model as a symbol on how a man and a woman should appear and act. In terms of fashion and physical appearance, those who did not match the body size and the look of these individuals, unconsciously they are judge as bad and ugly. Also, media constantly shows a man work as a hard labour where as a woman will work at a house, arranging lace and prettying the house in pink. This will shape an idea of a child where he will think that working at home is only a woman job. As for the kids, adults are their role model. For them, no matter what adults do, this will be assumed as a way of life of what a man or a woman should do. For instance, the way the adult st ereotype the gender will influence the kids. It will pass along gender stereotypes from one generation to the next. Another factor that influences the stereotyping is the influence of others. Sometimes, we are confused between others perceptions and ours which it may vary a lot. As a result, we might choose to follow their perception and slowly believe that our thinking is wrong and erroneous. This may happen in everyones life especially children where they tend to follow others more than their own instinct. The weight of scientific evidence demonstrates that children learn gender stereotypes from adults. As with gender roles, socializing agents-parents, teachers, peers, religious leaders, and the media-pass along gender stereotypes from one generation to the next. One approach to reexamining conventional gender roles and stereotypes is androgyny, which is the blending of feminine and masculine attributes in the same individual. The androgyne, or androgynous person, does not neatly fit into a female or male gender role; she or he can comfortably express the qualities of both genders. Parents and other socializing agents can teach their children to be androgynous, just as they can teach them to be gender-biased. (CliffsNotes.com. Gender Stereotypes. Retrieved on 21st Feb 2010) The most common stereotype for a man will be a man is more skillful, hardworking when it comes to practical jobs, always thinking about sex, be assertive, competitive, independent, courageous, and career-focused; hold his emotions in check and too conscious about his life triumph. These are few stereotype views that ones will deliver to a man. Whereas for a woman, she always be viewed as always put her familys welfare before her own; be loving, compassionate, caring, nurturing, and sympathetic. It seems so hard to separate them with those stereotypes. In Malaysia, the trend of a man becoming a househusband is still low. People view on a working-woman is acceptable, but for a woman to work and become the breadwinner of the family whereas her husband will take care of the household chores is still negative. Krishnamurthi (2004) stated that a woman will receive mockery comments and being alienated by the society if she has to work and her husband will stay at home. People will uttering that she is trying to control her husband and overshadow him as a family leader. In my view, the act of such thing will cause many negative effects. Many fathers intent to spend more time with their children but due to lack of time they have to keep inside their intention. A man is stereotype as a tough guy with less love sense like a woman. The act of encouraging them to stay at home will make them develop their love sense gradually. Hence they differentiation between a love from a father and a mother will be wiped out. For the mother, she may possibl y work without tension and stress because she need not to worry about her kids as this thing will be under her husband responsibility, not in other peoples supervision . Franzoi (2003) stated that negative stereotypes will develop a ruin self-fulfilling prophecy. Self-fulfilling prophecy refer to the act that becomes true because people expect it to be true and behave in a way that will make it happen. To forestall stereotyping, everybody must play a very important role. In Friedman (n.d) article in American Baby magazine stated that among the way to overcome stereotype is by gaining self-confidence it the kids. We should support everything the kids for whatever they are doing. Added to that, the parent should develop a special interaction and coordination to their kid that suits the kid interest. Personally, I really think that a parent should watch out for the media because as I have discussed earlier in this text media have develop most people stereotype view. The act of letting them receives much unclear information which will shape their view. As a conclusion, although equality, inequality and stereotype has create many problem however if we view it positively we still have many thing to gain from it. We, as the society should know how and when to react to this issue appropriately. Gender issue has to be treated properly as it tends to create more trouble if we handle it pessimistically. Moreover, it involve all kind of human being no matter we are a man or a woman. REFERENCES Franzoi .L. Stephen (2003) Social Psychology 3rd Edition. New York: McGraw-Hill. Modus Operandi Essay

Modus Operandi is a term used in a criminal investigation to describe a way in which a defender goes about committing a crime. Usually it defines a pattern of activities driven by the offenders, thought and behavior processes, before, during, and after the crime. It is also used in criminal profiling, where it can assist with obtaining clues regarding an offender’s psychology. It consists of examining the actions used by the offender to execute the crime, prevent its detection and/or facilitate escape. (Vronsky, 2004)A criminal’s MO pertains to facts gathered from a crime scene, giving investigators insight into how, when and where the crime was committed. For example, a criminal may use a particular weapon or focus on certain type of people, time of day, or a particular neighborhood. All which support his modus operandi. The signature is the way in which a criminal leaves his mark on the crime scene. This can include, posing or branding his victim in a certain way or carrying out his crime in a manic obsession such as torture of disfigurement, using props and/or securing souvenirs such as clothing, to relive the crime. An offender’s signature alerts profilers to the emotional and psychological aspects of the offender that are the driving forces of an offender’s crime.(Keppel,1997) Signature behaviors suggest clues regarding a criminal’s past, personality, emotions, mental state and intelligence. Criminal psychological profiling is an investigative tool utilized by experts to examine details of a crime, in the attempt to categorize, understand and predict the behavior of certain type of offenders based on behavioral clues they provide. Criminal psychological profiling is also referred to as â€Å"criminal profiling†, â€Å"criminal profiling† and â€Å"behavioral profiling.†Criminal profiling is a behavioral composite of the unknown, put together after analyzing the crime scene and other important information pertaining to the crime. This can include the autopsy report, autopsy and crime scene photos, as well as initial police reports. Also included in criminal profiling, is a detailed analysis of the victim. (Douglas, et al, 1992) Additional data, such as geographical areas beyond the immediate crime scene, the method of which the offender traveled to and from the crime scene and the relevant aspects of the residential location of the victim are also examined. In addition, the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim is also analyzed. Criminal profiling is not necessarily useful in every case, yet in some cases, it can assist with narrowing down the search for an offender when used in repeated crimes committed by a specific offender, such as serial rape or murder. Knowledge gained from profiling, can aide in the interrogation process of an offender and can assist with identifying and protecting potential victims before the perpetrator gains the opportunity to offend again. Although there are many opponents against utilizing the criminal profiling techniques, the goal of criminal profiling is to deduce enough behavioral, personality and physical characteristics about an offender so that she or he may be apprehended. (Berg, 2008) Several FBI special agents have written books noting their positive experiences with utilizing their skills of a criminal profiler.FBI profiler, Robert Ressler, assisted with popularizing the field of profiling. His book, Whoever Fights Monsters, has often been credited with creating much of the public’s fascination with psychological profiling. Berg, B. L. (2008). Criminal Investigation.
